Today
as modern humans we no longer live as an agrarian society. While there are farmers who harvest crops for
us and work with the lands of our Earth it seems as if it must be in a faraway
field somewhere in an almost foreign land compared to the cement jungles and
crowded cities most people live in. It
is in a deep sadness that I have realized that we have lost this sacred
connection with our mother Earth. The
lucky people who do have large enough back yards don’t all possess a garden and
some of them who do hire a gardener to care for their grasses and gardens
rather than sinking their own hands into the magical soil and feeling a part of
our forgotten earth. It is through this
unique connection of appreciating a growing plant and nurturing that plant into
a full bloom or a ripe fruit that we can make this connection that the earth is
our ultimate source of nourishment and life.
It is a strong belief of mine that the loss of
this connection has significantly impacted us as humans in many negative
ways. We no longer are in sync with the
rhythm’s and seasons of our earth, we stay inside buildings breathing in
recycled air, missing out on the abundant vitamin D which we would have gotten
from short periods of exposures to the sun.
We have lost more than we will ever know because being outdoors in
nature is something that was a way of life to our ancestors.
Make
it a priority each day to spend at least 20 minutes outdoors, the benefits will
amaze you. Your anxiety will begin to
decrease, your mood will begin to uplift, your skin will have a slight glow
from the sun and you will have an overall sense of peacefulness and tranquility. I make it part of my daily wellness routine
to get outdoors whether it be at a park, going to the beach with my family or
taking a break at work to go for a short walk.
Every time I return from my outdoor excursion I return with vibrant
energy, I am more focused and present in the moment and if I had any anxiety or
felt rushed before, that feeling has completely melted away. I highly recommend that everyone make it a part
of their daily routine to reconnect with nature and remember that our Earth the
most precious resource that we will ever have and it needs to be respected and
protected for the future generations of humans and animals alike.
